On March 26, 2019 the church council of Morrow Church passed a resolution to withhold our apportionments to the annual conference and the United Methodist Church. (The resolution and the bishop’s response is attached to this message.) Bishop Schol requested an opportunity to meet with Morrow Leadership to discuss the decision.
I thought it would be helpful to wait until after the UMC judicial council rules on the issues before them. Bishop Schol and I have had some fruitful conversations that make it clear to me that it would be helpful to hear from the bishop sooner rather than wait. He has been in conversations with national and international leaders. He would like to share what he has been hearing and listen to the concerns of Morrow Church leadership. He is very affirming of Morrow Church’s witness to the annual conference and the general church. I want to assure you that there was no pressure to schedule the meeting. He has been respectful of Morrow’s decision and would like to share strategies that might be helpful to us.
We have scheduled the meeting for Tuesday April 23 at 7:30 pm. Everyone at Morrow Church is invited to attend this conversation. You do not need to be a member of Morrow Church to attend the meeting. There are a number of people who attend Morrow but are not formal members. We want everyone to feel welcome.
