Our elementary-age children (grades K-5) grow in their faith each week with relevant and engaging lessons. Children focus on one BIG IDEA each month in their Sunday School classes.
Elementary-age children meet on the 2nd floor in the Youth Choir Room. The children meet in one large room where they have consistent teachers who bring the lesson to them in creative and relevant ways. For example, children may be walking a runway, acting out a story, doing a Bible poetry slam, or connecting with children in other countries via Skype. Each week, children also reflect on their God Sightings, sharing their experience of God during the week.
Both the large group and small group sessions use the Grow, Proclaim, Serve! curriculum from Cokesbury. Each week teachers distribute a Hop-on-Home card to help you and your child(ren) explore the week’s Bible story in your home and how the lesson relates to our lives today.
A typical morning for our elementary-age children includes:
A group of 30-40 children join together for fun, lively music; a lesson about the week’s Bible story; and a large-group activity to reinforce the scripture topic.
A group of 10-12 children meet with their teachers to discuss the Bible lesson in an age-group setting and explore it more deeply, using all the different learning styles.
Children’s Church (Preschool-Grade 3) is an option for children to continue their learning experience during the 10:30am worship hour as well as be active participants in their own worship.
Children attend worship in the sanctuary with their families for a portion of the service. Then, after “Children’s Time” during worship, they join Children’s Church.
Children are welcome to attend Children’s Church or remain in worship on any given Sunday.
During worship services, childcare is provided for children (ages 3 years old and younger) in a safe and secure environment.
Check the signs at the doors in the first floor east wing of the church to determine the appropriate room for your child.
