Sunday morning faith formation for Pre-K – Grade 5 Students
9:30 – 9:45am — Breakfast Together
Children and families can join teachers for a light breakfast and time to catch up on the week’s news and activities.
9:45 – 10:15am — Children and Family Worship
Children in pre-K through grade 2 join their teachers (parents are welcome to join as well) for lively music, story and prayer. Our focus for 2018-2019 is the life and teachings of Jesus. Each week we’ll consider Jesus’ lessons and example and think about how we can follow in our lives.
9:45 – 10:20am — Age-level Classes for Grade 3 – Grade 5
The children’s teachers will lead them to classrooms where they will dig deeper into the story through games, art, discussion as well as check in with our classmates and pray for each other. Adults can join our adult discussion group or spend time in fellowship together.
10:50 – 11:30am — Young Disciples’ Class
During our 10:30 Sanctuary Worship service, children are invited to join the Pastors for a time together. Following this Children’s Time, kids are invited to leave the sanctuary and join classes where they will reflect on the same story/scripture/theme focus of the worship service through story-sharing and creative responses to the story.
Things we believe to be true about growing children’s faith:
Better Together. Learning and growing in our spiritual lives is better when we are with others. We think that hearing from friends of all ages, parents, other adults and our teachers — about how we experience God in our lives; what Bible stories mean to us; what kinds of questions we have — help all of us grow as caring, loving people.
Multiple Learnings. Students will follow a themed curriculum, learning traditional bible stories and applying to their lives lessons of wisdom, empathy, respect, and love. This fresh, exciting format which includes worship, music, video, games, and multiple story-telling styles, is designed for pre-K to Grade 5 and features loving lessons on the stories of Jesus. Through these, the children connect with the spirit and fan the light of the divine within them.
Relational Teaching. The prophet Isaiah describes our closeness to God, “we are embedded into the palm of God’s hand.” We follow that model, with teachers keeping up with the children’s interests, questions, activities and concerns; sharing stories of our lives and loves together; wondering together about the stories of our faith, and our experiences of God.
Professional childcare for children who are walking up to age 4 is provided in Room 105 and for infants through walking in the Infant Space at the bottom of the Narthex Stairs. An usher will be happy to direct you. Children age 4 through 3rd grade may join us in the Sanctuary during worship, and then leave for Young Disciples’ after Children’s Time. Young Disciples’ offers kids a time for fellowship and fun as they learn about the day’s scripture lesson. Pick-up is in rooms 116. Children’s bulletins are available for ages 3-6 and 7-12. Please ask an usher for copies.
